In December 2023, I decided to apply for the Arts SU exhibition project open call with the goal to achieve professional experience. I contacted my classmates to propose a group exhibition, created a project with them, and applied for the open call. Later, we received the outcome that we've been accepted.
In January 2024, we started to organize the exhibition together with the Arts SU team, and in February our group show opened in the SU Gallery Space at Camberwell College of Arts.
The experience was enriching in various ways, especially on writing project proposals and curating the exhibition with my peers. In the past few years I have tried to apply with exhibition projects for a variety of open calls, but this was the first time I was accepted. I believe that this happened because of the great teamwork that I had with my classmates, combining our strenghts to materialize it.
Even though each one of us selected the work that we wanted to exhibit individually, with this experience I realized I have the desire to explore even more the field of curation. For this exhibition, the group decided together the display of each work and the best ways of communication between them, since we all have different practices and researches.
In the end, I believe that the exhibition communicated what we were aiming for, to showcase our researches individually but at the same time creating a dialogue between ourselves, sharing with the public our own perspectives of the drawing practice in the contemporary context.
